Participate in the Fall Simulated Emergency Test

LANE COUNTY ARES/RACES - NOVEMBER 15, 2008 - SIMULATED EMERGENCY TEST

It is time for the Fall Simulated Emergency Test or SET. All hams in the area, especially those with Em Comm training, are invited to participate. [While it is preferable that you at least have a mag mount antenna for a hand held radio, we will find a place for everyone, even if you just want to observe.]

HOW DO YOU PARTICIPATE?

On November 15th, at 8 a.m., tune to the 146.68 repeater. Listen, do not transmit. It is a directed Resource Net. When the control operator invites you to call and check in, time to do so. But listen, as there may be a request for those with specialized equipment first or separately. There will be a number stations calling to check-in, so spread out your calls, so the Net Control operator can make a list. You will be told there is a list and if you are on it. Once one the list, wait for a roll call and assignments.

There will be a roll call for each station checked in, to get a tactical assignment and tactical frequency.

When you are called on roll call, give your location, and the equipment you have available to take to an assigned location, and your ability to travel or not. [Example, 2 meter hand held at 5 watts and a magnetic mount antenna; I have a car or I do not have a car; no preference on where sent].

Then either in your car or by other arrangements made by Resource Net control operator, go to your assigned tactical location and follow the instructions given [at a minimum, you will be given a tactical net frequency, the name of the net control of that tactical net], when you get on station.

During the SET, follow the Tactical Net Control operators' instructions, do the tasks assigned, and when the SET is concluded, check out of your assigned Tactical Net with your Net Control Station, using tactical calls.

Then, tune back to the Resource Net frequency of 146.68, check in when you are called, and get your permission to leave the SET. All of this will be done by about 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 15th. Easy; fun!

PIZZA TIME!

Now go to Roaring Rapids Pizza on Franklin Blvd to enjoy food and visiting, and get a debrief on the SET.
